Our Dating Sim (Ramble Review)

I started this right when it came out with no expectations. The promo was cute but it’s always cute and then it falls flat, so flat (looking at All the Liquors). The plot is so simple. Grabbing straight from its MyDramaList page, “A story about what happens when two men who have been friends since school days meet again at work and create a dating simulation game.” It sounds cute and possibly bland. So it was definitely going to be a passive watch. One where I write an essay or something while seeing pretty boys on in the background. But then I watched the first episode.

How many times can you watch two people stare at one another from across the building? I don’t know because I stopped keeping count. The writers took a very simple story and made it so juicy. Oh my god the yearning. The Yearning. I am an absolute sucker for slow burn (but the right amount) and pining and they pulled it off. From Lee Wan’s shock when he sees Shin Gitae again to the absolute tooth-rotting fluff at the end, they fucking nailed the landing. So good oh my god. And they did it all without losing the emotional depth that comes with being abandoned which really hit. Our Dating Sim is about second chances and regret and loving someone until it reaches them. It’s fluffy and sweet, but it has heart.
